History of the Mill

Only known history is that a European-style windmill was constructed near present-day Peoria in 1691.  In 1773, this windmill was sold to Jean Baptiste Point du Sable—the man who later founded Chicago.  Being the earliest on record, the author considers this to be the first windmill ever constructed in Illinois.
